The 30-Year Looking Glass: America's Healthcare System; Strategies for Reform

The Thirty-Year Looking Glass is an allegoristic personal and industry-wide observation of transitions and perceptions within the American healthcare industry. The first third of the book presents how policy is made in America. The second third identifies key health policy initiatives and law changes of the 19th and 20th century on the national level. It also defines the population of the uninsured and what actions have been taken to address the massive numbers of them. The final third takes the reader on a journey through the two looking glasses of the author’s experiences within the American healthcare industry: personal and professional. Finally, the book provides a critique of the Healthcare Reform Bill of 2010 signed into law by President Obama and concludes with strategies envisioned to help alleviate the burden of the uninsured on the American healthcare system.

Lora A. Lankford is an experienced, credentialed healthcare professional with over thirty years expertise as a clinician, medical quality reviewer, and consultant working with public, private, and government providers within the American healthcare industry. She holds five earned college degrees from a diploma in nursing to a master’s degree in health services management. She is single and currently lives in the western United States. She has an interest in helping to transform America’s healthcare industry for the consumers of services, the providers who administer those services, and the payers who assume financial oversight of those services. She enjoys being physically active, reading, traveling, and is an ardent civic volunteer.
