Brahmopadesam

Brahmopadesam is the story of Shankar Sarma, a Brahmin widower, and a reputed scholar of the Vedas. He lives his life as prescribed by Manu, much to the irritation of his neighbors who look upon him as an irresponsible father to his daughter. Brainwashed with this idea, his daughter, Mythraye, revolts. Sarma himself turns into a revolutionary maverick to the surprise and shock of his neighbors. Is Sarma a religious fanatic or a true interpreter of religion?

He was honored with Jnana Pith Award, the most prestigious literary award in India in 2002. The Government of India honored him with Padma Shri Award in 2009.

Gopalakrishnan Veeraswamy was born in Chennai, India and migrated to the States as a student. After earning his Ph. D in English Literature from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC he taught English in various schools and colleges in South Carolina for close to thirty years.
