by Gary J. Aaronberg
The title itself, Gifts of a Pauper, was originally the title of a song written back in 1974. The contents herein include basic personal observations throughout the course of many periods or stages of my own evolution and, I might add, make up an ongoing process. For instance, “Two Souls Merge” was written for my wife Kathy and did not evolve until a process of editing and rewriting in the span of about two years’ time.
It is my fondest hope that you, the reader, will share my passion and emotion that is set within these works and will somewhat feel inspired reading them as I have while writing them.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I was born in Williamsburgh in Brooklyn, New York, on March 5, 1956. At the age of sixteen in 1972, my family relocated to Long Island. This was the time when poetry became predominant in my life. I was the assistant editor for my high school newspaper, The Central Islip Shadows, when I met a combination of musicians as well as the garden-variety Bohemian writers of my circle. It was also a time when I experimented with many forms of writing, from song lyrics to short stories, only to always return to my true passion—poetry. I had only chose to seek publication at the age of forty-three and feel quite pleased in sharing my work. I have been married to my wife Kathy since 1989. We have one daughter, Melissa, who, aside from being a writer herself, aspires to be a cultural anthropologist. We currently reside on Long Island.
