by Dr. Jack L. Gresham
While attending LIFE (Learning Institute for Elders) at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, I was privileged to hear a series of lectures by the Chairman of the Department of Poetry. I had the preconceived idea that this would be a dull series. Was I ever wrong! Afterward, I thought how enlivening it would be for me to be able to attend class and learn how to write poetry.
Instead, because of time constraints and scheduling, I just started writing — on my own, poetry — at least that is what I call it, deservedly or not.
I thought of easily remembered epic times in my life (though they might have not seemed so when happening) and was able to consider just the tip of the iceberg. The intent of this collection is not only for self-expression but also to perhaps inspire readers to consider the meaning of epic times in their lives as well, perhaps even inspire them to write poems.
