Love, Life, and the Lord

by Kevin Anthony
Love, Life, and the Lord is a compilation of poetry which meticulously explores the universal issues of love and rejection as well as the intricacies of human relationships. The theme of love is prevalent throughout the entire collection; however, this work is also varied and distinctive, incorporating contrasting styles and forms of poetry and discussing different manifestations and types of love, from platonic love to the passion and heartbreak of love unrequited.
“Now That You’re Gameless,” in contrast to many of the poems in this collection, is constructed around a strong rhyme scheme and is driven forward by its powerful sense of rhythm:
The derangeness
The strangeness
I don’t know you anymore
You might as well be nameless
Shameless have you learned your lesson
Now that you’re gameless.
Kevin Anthony employs informal, often colloquial language, including elements of slang, which has the effect of rendering the collection personal and accessible. He also displays a skillful use of imagery and metaphor to ensure that emotions, which are the primary inspirations for these poems, are vividly and distinctively expressed throughout the whole of Love, Life, and the Lord.
